“My son told me that he really got a lot out of class this week. He thought it was definitely worth his time to attend as well as spend time outside class to complete homework. What teenager admits that? :)”

Enrichment Intensives

Our purpose-built enrichment intensives provide an opportunity for students to sharpen their reading and writing skills during the summer months and throughout the school year. All of our one-on-one offerings are always customized to meet each child’s individual literacy level.

To book an enrichment intensive, please follow these two steps:

  1. After reading about our tutors, select the Associate or Founder option and complete your purchase below.

  2. Schedule your child’s sessions. Sessions can be scheduled at any frequency you prefer, though most families choose to book at least one session per week to maintain a steady momentum. So long as your child has time to complete the reading and writing assignments between our sessions (designed to take about one hour), any configuration will work well.

Note: All enrichment intensives are subject to published availability, and intensive credits expire six months after the date of purchase.

Creative Writing 101

This course equips rising 5th, 6th, and 7th graders with a structured platform for imaginative expression. Celebrating original ideas, young writers will examine multiple storytelling techniques and experiment with a variety of creative voices. In each of the eight hours of live instruction, students will read mentor texts, discuss effective elements of narrative, and draft their own short stories. Receiving professional editing in the form of one-on-one conferencing and written feedback, students will emerge from the course confident in their ability to compose sophisticated and exciting short stories.

Literary Analysis 101

This course equips rising 9th, 10th, and 11th graders with skills for success in their high school English and history classes—and wherever else analytical writing is required. Graduating from the realm of “middle school thinking” (observation, simple summary, and plot description), young writers may struggle when asked to perform “high school thinking” (critical analysis, interpretation, and argument). In each of the eight hours of live instruction, students will read and discuss short stories and essays, strengthen annotation strategies, and implement a proven framework for analytical paragraphing. Receiving professional editing in the form of one-on-one conferencing and written feedback, students will emerge from the course confident in their ability to compose compelling analytical paragraphs.

Summer Reading Intensive

This course enables rising 5th-12th graders to fully immerse themselves in any assigned summer reading texts. With carefully guided close reading practice, students sharpen their critical thinking skills and learn to identify valuable passages in any text. In each of the four hours of live instruction, students practice annotation, discussion, and analytical writing. The Summer Reading Intensive is even more fun as a small group session with friends!

Writing Competition Intensive

This course enables rising 5th-12th graders to prepare submissions to writing contests, scholarship programs, literary magazines, and/or school newspapers. In each of the four hours of live instruction, students brainstorm, outline, draft, revise, and proofread their work while learning from an expert writing instructor. The opportunity to practice the complete writing process alongside a supportive teacher boosts student self-confidence and allows young writers to feel proud of their finished product.
